AFP or formely named Ravcoplast was started in 1979. It produced PVC & HDPE Pipes for Water, Electrical, stormwater and drainage up to 250 OD. It was started by Enzo Russo, in 1991 Ravcoplast machinery was sold to Vinidex and Drossbach joint venture.
Ravcoplast was re-named Australian Film & Pipe Manufactures. AFP continued in plastic manufacturing in products such as Film and Pipe for the similar clients. In 2002 Marcello Russo took over as General Manager and commenced growing the Pipe range for the market.
In February 2006 AFP was sold to Cromford Pty who is owned soley by Souls Private Equity Limited (SPEL).
Cromford Pty Ltd began operations in 1978 under the guidance of Washington H Soul Pattinson Ltd (WHSP).
Cromford produced a range of polyethylene blown film for use in the building and agricultural industries. The unique thing with the Cromford product was that it was made from raw material made from recycled low density polyethylene scrap plastic. The two major producers of products for this market sector at that time were Union Carbide & ICI who were producing similar products from virgin raw material. As recycled materials became more accepted Union Carbide & ICI withdrew from this market sector.
Cromford introduced polyethylene dampcourse to the bricklaying market in 1984 and again it proved a market leader and captured the majority of the sales into the housing and window industry.
To this end Cromford has purchased Australian Film & Pipe a manufacturer of polyethylene blown film as well as a diverse range of pipes used in plumbing, irrigation and infrastructure projects. The Strategy when buying AFP was to continue the growth in Pipe Manufacturing in all areas of the market.
Over the years Cromford has been well respected as a manufacturer and supplier and has continued to grow its business on the key issues of quality and service. In recent times Cromford was acquired by SPEL (major share holder WHSP) and again has been given the opportunity to broaden its foot print in the plastics industry.
Managing Director Kim Jones began employment with Cromford in 1989 as the National Sales Manager, then was appointed General Manager in 1989 and was later appointed as Managing Director.
Kim Has had a long career in companies directly related to the building industry and has served on a range of key industry groups as well as Australian Standards committees.
AFP's factory in Moss Vale NSW is currently operating in the existing facilities, a large capital expansion project is being undertaken including the relocation of the two business’ planned to take the company to a state-of-the art plastics facility which can manufacture products from either virgin resins or recycled materials. This factory will be completed by January 2009
